Only in NH can somebody call the Democrats, who would be considered center/right in the rest of the world, socialists. This plan is designed to help everybody, not just those don't need it. We already know that the student loan program is a sham. The US college system is in danger of becoming an upper-class privelage like the US healthcare system already is. For those who can read the writing on the wall, we would do well to support this bill else we become further outpaced by other countries like China and the EU, who consider education a national priority and NOT a tax burden.
- Joseph Turcotte, Derry, NH

Susan,
You will not only be paying for everyone's health care but your own as well. We should have a national health care system.. Also, I think his idea is brilliant. We encourage people to get an education: Why not give them the means to do so? Perhaps they will not be unlucky like me and become buried in student loan debt. We should help each other. In Germany, students are actually given a stipend to live on in order to attend college; this is for everyone. By supporting this you would be helping to make the society a better place--not one full of a bunch of deadbeats who may have at one point aspired to attend college, but who could not because of the cost.

Augustine Martinez, Lansing, MI - No, I am not missing the point. Taking my money from me and giving to it others is stealing - I do not wish to live the socialist utopia that many of these Democrat presidential candidates are suggesting via their programs.

You said " ould come from our government not spending money on unecessary programs" - To quyote John Stossel "Give me a break" Government spending never gets cut to accommodate a new program!

This proposal by Dodd will further push the federal government into education - a place that they never should be in the first place!

Oh - when I have complete school choice and tax credits or vouchers to send my children to the school of my choice - public or private - or homeschool - then we'll talk.

Forced benevolence! It does not work, and it's not fair.
- Susan, concord

Susan,
while it is true taxes are the means by which we create these types of programs, I think your missing the point. It seems to me you are worried about your taxes being raised and your life being affected and how it would pertain to you. First off I believe and I would hope others feel the same, that much of this funding could come from our government not spending money on unecessary programs and interest groups to help lobbyist and further permote the cronyism that runs rampid everyday. Second, watching what happens to your home and your life could get this country into a very difficult situation, you could have every tax break and benefit of not paying for one of these "free" programs, while the rest of the people around you could be suffering. Being the only healthy and happy home on the block for sake of saving a few dollars on a tax in my opinion is exactly the kind of mentality that has gotten this country into the situation we are in right now. Just my thoughts
- Augustine Martinez, Lansing, MI

I attended the Dodd discussion yesterday and several appearances by Dodd these last few months as well as other candidates. Sen. Dodd is sincere, thoughtful with the leadership qualities we are all seeking. His Education proposal is exciting, bold and will help turn hope for higher enducation into reality for millions that are now cut adrift.
- Fran Egbers, Manchester

Great - another "free" program that will cost us taxpayers billions. Note, t hat Dodd not only wants the federal gov't to cough up money for this - he expects the states to do so as well. That means, we'll get higher state taxes as well as federal.

If the Democrats get their dream country - I (as a taxpayer) will end up having to pay for my neighbors health care AND education. (and whatever other "free" program that everyone "deserves" as well) Just lovely.
