With U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes, D-N.H., ready to announce his candidacy for Judd Gregg’s U.S. Senate seat within a week, veteran Democratic activist Katrina Swett will become a candidate for his 2nd District U.S. House seat, Democratic sources say.

Gay folks richly deserve equal substantive rights, but the just-as-good messaging in gay marriage is the wrong message for youngsters.

Nearly all parents want the best for their kids, and fervently hope that they will grow up heterosexual. Many kids are marginally bisexual in early adolescence.

New Hampshire, support your parents, and your kids, by staying with the civil unions solution.

Wasn't Swett just running for Senate until Shaheen entered the race? Hopefully someone will scare her away from running for Congress too.
- Amanda, Plymouth

Bradley, are you out there? This is your chance-go for the senate!
- Craig Romano, Mount Vernon WA

Get ready. Our entire Congressional delegation will be Democratic after the 2010 election. It's the only way anything will get done.
- ed, londonderry

I think Carol would be a far better choice for the Democrats for Senate candidate

1- She's won 3 upsets (2 generals and a primary) in a much more Republican district, showing her ability to win with Republicans and Independents.

2- In 2008, she won in ALL 12 Manchester wards, and performed better than Shaheen in 57 out of the 62 towns!
- Justin, Conway

Hmmm. Interesting that the DIMocRATS are tipping their hand so early. That gives the Republicans time to plan a better answer.

To Chip of Wilton

Stop your whining! You obviously believe, like all Democrats, that the 1st Amendment of the Constitution should be abolished. Fortunately, some news organizations provide both points of view unlike most of the biased liberal news media of many of the larger cities. Perhaps you consider moving to a state where the voters are led by the nose without having to think things out. Pathetic!
- Dennis, Merrimack, NH

What we need is more new blood. Let's start a movement for term limits for all politicians. Two terms and out, also they get the same retirement benefits as the rest of us. I promise they will fix social security if it affects them!
- Tim, Boscawen

Tell Hodes to do something constructive while he's in Congress.

Tell Hodes to vote yes on the HR735

Rangel Rule Act of 2009.

In fact e-mail Shea-Pelosi Porter too.

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h735/show

HR735

Rangel Rule Act of 2009
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that penalties and interest will not be imposed on individuals who are citizens of the United States.
CURRENT 111ST SESSION OF CONGRESS
OpenCongress Summary:
A direct reference to current House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel's (D-NY) recent tax scandals, this bill would allow taxpayers to write "Rangel Rule" on their return when paying back taxes in order to avoid paying IRS penalties and fees.

UL readership is the biggest bunch of whining babies I have ever seen.

Step 1 Vote
Step 2 Whine and complain that you are in the minority

Step 3 Attack the change message: as if anyone thinks that Obama and his administration is anything like the Bush years.
At least have the smarts to say that you don't like the change, otherwise you are arguing that dems are the same as repubs, in which case you'd support Hodes as much as Sununu
- Chip, Wilton

I hope Carol Shea-Porter runs! Paul is too tied to the establishment!
- Sarah, Portsmouth

Hodes is an empty suit. I hope he runs and gets trounced by another Democrat or a Republican. Lynch? Sununu?

By the way, kudos to Lynch for being fair on this one.
- Ben, Concord, NH

What's the big deal? The guy has had a decent run (judging by his re-election) in the House and now wants to seek a larger spot after he finishes this current term. How is this wrong?
I didn't know it was bad to be ambitious. It seems that lately, regardless of party, it's a bad thing for public servants to seek a higher calling in their line of work(see: Gregg, Shaheen, Guinta, etc..). Apparently, they should just stay in their place or just leave altogether.
I feel bad for lower level gov't employees. They'll be stuck there for life, lest they be branded an egotist, hack or the always dreaded "career-advancer. " I'm sure the private sector would appreciate a motivated employee.
- Breyer S., Manchester, NH

Hodes will probably be running against Sununu without Obama at the top of the ticket.

The State budget better be very balanced, and the Democrats better have the economy running very smooth. And the Democrats better not be under fire because of their total control of State and Federal government.

Otherwise, the Senate race will not be a cake walk.

If Hodes were more seasoned he'd wait before announcing to see exactly what the climate is. Instead he is basing the next race on the political conditions and political realities of the last election.

That level of political savy should not escape the Sununu camp's notice.
- Bob Jean, Northwood, NH

Paul Hodes is what the state needs in a senator. He has demonstrated good and independent thought in the Senate. And he is not a career politician, as others on this blog have suggested. He is in fact a refreshing change from the old party people in this state. His entry into the race now will help him build the organization, funding and recognition in District 1 that he will need to win.
- Charles, Amherst

Hey,... "I called shotgun!"
- john from Blur Hampshire, Londonderry

Hodes probably wanted to throw his hat into the ring right away so that if Shea-Porter gets any ideas, she'll be seen as trying to divide the party by running against a fellow Democratic Congressman.
- JJL, Suncook

Jocelyn of Salem could you refresh my memory on just what 'good" he has done for the state? In some ways this is good because it gives us two years to make sure he does not get that seat.
More good news is he will be campaigning so less damage he can do in Congress and in two years maybe some eyes will be opened and see this "change" is a joke. Hope you have paid all your taxes Paul. Oh yeah that does not matter any more does it?
- Bill B., Pelham

Surprise, surprise. Paul will stop at nothing to advance his career. What if John Lynch wants it in 2010? Or what if the Katrina Swett? Paul should cool his heals for a while!
- James, Amherst

What a career politician. You just ran for Congress Hodes, and now you just want to use it to run again? What a hack.

Why are people so stupid. This was expected to happen from the beginning and was why Obama asked Gregg to the Commerce post. Did anyone else find it a little bit of an omen that Hodes was one of the 14 politicians invited by Obama to his Super Bowl party on Sunday night? Nope, it was all apart of a bigger plan.

The liberal Obama and the Democrats aren't about Change or bipartisanship, they just want complete control and that's why they picked Gregg for the Commerce Seat.
- Chris King, Manchester, New Hampshire

Congressman Paul Holes should run for the US Senate in 2010 he will do a great job for New Hampshire he has done allot for New Hampshire in the US House of Representative.
- Jocelyn Gallant, Salem, NH 03079

And who was it who cared about this?
- Jonathan, Bedford

So now Paul is going to spend the next 2 years running for something els.e Learn your first elected job first. My My...
- kevin, Derry

Wow, what a surprise. Sen. Gregg's seat isn't cool and this egotist wants us to believe he's God's answer for NH. OK, Governor Sununu, now's your time to put the NH GOP is motion...two seats for the price of one!
- Joe, Bow

Great! His defeat in 2010 will mean he is out of congress!!!

That is the best news I have heard about him so far!
- Marc, Weare
