Sen. Barack Obama and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani are the early frontrunners in a mock primary at the University of New Hampshire that kicked off yesterday just after midnight.

Students are scheduled to vote throughout this week with dorms split into three groups, each voting yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In an effort to mimic the state's primary, residents of Jessie Doe Hall decided to vote from midnight to 12:15 a.m. yesterday, earning them the nickname "Doe-ville Notch," a play off of the state's traditional first voting place, Dixville Notch.

Obama trounced the competition, garnering 17 votes, or 55 percent of the 31 Democratic ballots cast at Doe Hall. On the Republican side, Giuliani bested the competition with seven votes, or 50 percent of ballots cast.

Out of 138 residents at Doe Hall, 45 cast ballots yesterday.

To sway other voters, officials are posting the "Doe-ville Notch" results throughout campus to see if those early ballots set a tone for later voting.

"What's the fun of being Dixville Notch if you can't sway people a little bit," Jessie Doe Hall Director Jay Tifone said yesterday. "We're going to see if there's any snowball effect that happens." Final vote totals are scheduled to be released Friday.
